INFORMED CONSENT TO PARTICIPATE IN RESEARCH

You are invited to participate in this study “Diaspora Mapping”. The purpose of this study is to collect demographic and location information on the Nepali diaspora community across the globe and create a comprehensive mapping for the diaspora members with the goal to foster diaspora engagement and support future research. This study is being conducted by the Great Nepali Diaspora (TGND) and the volunteer team Abhinab Kadel, Bikram Adhikari, Niraj Shrestha, Oshin Pandey, Prabisha Shrestha and Preeti Adhikary.

To qualify for this survey, you must be 18 years or older and first or second generation Nepali. Your participation is completely voluntary, and you can withdraw at any time. If you agree to participate in this study, you will fill out the Diaspora Mapping form which includes questions about demographic and location information and will take approximately 5 minutes to fill out.

There is no compensation for your time to fill out the survey, and participating in this survey may not benefit you directly. However, it will help the TGND team to create a repository of the diaspora members and support any future research and projects. You may find answering some of the questions to be personal or upsetting. If you do, you can skip them or quit the survey at any time.

The information you will share with us from this study will be kept completely confidential and secure. Your information will be assigned a unique ID (TGND ID). The data connecting your name to the TGND ID will be kept in a secure cloud environment and only the Project Manager and Survey Administrator will be able to see the data. No other staff at the TGND will be able to see your survey or even know whether you participated in this study. When the study is completed and the data have been analyzed, the list linking participants’ names to the TGND ID will be destroyed. De-identified data (all identifying information removed) may be shared with other investigators to support future research. Any research or project based on this study data will be updated on our website. While the researchers will keep your information confidential, there are some risks of data breeches when sending information over the internet and online data storage that are beyond the control of the researchers. We have created a data policy document that addresses how your data will be stored, protected, and used. Furthermore, it also addresses how any identifying information will be de-linked from the survey data. For more details, please refer to our Data Policy document here and Privacy Policy document here .

If you have any questions about this study, please contact Preeti Adhikary (adhikarypreeti@gmail.com).
